Java ≠ High Blood Pressure

Whether you're a die-hard latte fan or just want a basic cup of joe, coffee is ubiquitous in our society. So much so that many of us can't imagine facing the day (especially a Monday), without a little caffeine jolt to get us going.

It's no wonder that when a study comes out showing that coffee might be bad for our health, that many of us find it hard to imagine giving up our daily indulgence, whether it be one cup or ten.

Java drinkers can breathe a sigh of relief, because a recent study that followed 170,000 people over 33 years, showed that coffee did not increase the risk of high blood pressure.

And, the amount of coffee study participants didn't seem to matter either. Whether it's less than one cup or more than five, the study didn't show any correlation between coffee consumption and increased blood pressure.

So if you're a one-cup-a-day kind of person or need five or more to keep you going, you don't need to worry about coffee being detrimental to your blood pressure.

This is especially good news, since blood pressure is a leading contributor to heart disease, which is one of the major causes of death in North America and most of us can't imagine getting through tough days without a little jolt of caffeine.

However, if you're finding your daily coffee habit is keeping you up at night, you might want to scale back a bit. It might not cause high blood pressure, but if you're not sleeping well, you won't be doing your health any favours.

Are you a coffee drinker? Would you stop drinking it if you knew it was harmful to your health?
